Since the coalition government was elected back in May, we have been watching with interest to see how UK development policy may change.

For avid aid-watchers, there has been an interesting setting of priorities for the UK’s approach to development. It comes in the form of DFID’s recently-released “Structural Reform Plan” .

It is a bold and positive step for the coalition government to commit to protect spending on international development and to reach the 0.7% target on “overseas development assistance” by 2013.

It’s been a pressurised week at Progressio, with several long awaited events happened simultaneously. 

Encyclical on social justice

 Pope Benedict released his long awaited encyclical on social justice, Caritas in Veritate.

I’m still digesting what is a long and rich document, full of pithy one liners on the scandal of poverty and injustice that will be food for thought for years to come.
