Haiti: Building a future to last

Come and hear Haiti’s former Prime Minister – October 11th 2010

Nine months after a devastating earthquake killed 230,000 people in the poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti’s former Prime Minister, Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis, will be in the UK to talk about the future for her devastated country.

Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis will be joining Progressio in London to look at lessons for the international community before, during and after the earthquake which left 300,000 people injured and a further one million people homeless. She will address the prospects for Haiti’s long-term development and talk about how ordinary Haitians are faring in their struggle to overcome poverty and injustice.

Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis will be speaking at the Royal Commonwealth Society in central London, following Progressio’s AGM, on the evening of Monday October 11th.

Why people go hungry

With Christine Allen, Progressio’s Executive Director – September 17th 2010

Most people believe hunger is just a problem of food supply. But the reason one billion people go to bed hungry each night is more about poor governance and accountability. Why is this? What are the solutions? How are people finding solutions for themselves? Drawing on the work of Progressio around the world, this workshop will address the political challenges of access to food and water and provides ideas for action.

Christine Allen will be speaking at the National Justice and Peace Network Annual Conference, Swanwick on Saturday 17th.
